MVV Energie acquires biomethane plant stakes from bmp greengas
MVV Energie AG (Mannheim) is acquiring the stakes held by bmp greengas GmbH (Munich) in the biomethane plants Biomethananlage Klein Wanzleben GmbH and Biomethananlage Kroppenstedt GmbH as of 30 September 2016.
MVV Energie will then be the sole shareholder in the two plants in Saxony-Anhalt.
The first joint biomethane plant, located in Klein Wanzleben, began operations in September 2012. This was followed by the launch of operations at a comparable plant in Kroppenstedt in spring 2014. Both plants feed the biomethane thereby generated into the public natural gas grid.
bmp greengas is pressing ahead with its strategy of structural streamlining. Following this sale, it will no longer own any production companies. "We will be focusing one hundred percent on our core business of biomethane trading and system services", comments Volker Seebach, Managing Director of bmp greengas. The gas produced by the two plants will continue to be marketed via the bmp greengas portfolio and the excellent trading relationship with MVV Energie is to be upheld on a long-term basis.
MVV Energie already held a majority 74.9 percent stake in the two biomethane plants. "Expanding renewable energies is a core component of our growth strategy", stresses MVV’s Technical Director and Executive Board member Dr. Hansjörg Roll. "Together with our neighbouring plants in Stassfurt and Barby, we have an efficient biomethane cluster in the Magdeburger Börde region, one that is making a valuable contribution to the energy turnaround in close cooperation with agricultural players in the region."
